Thomas Westfall, OCT
‘Twas the week before practicum, I’ve been working hard in class.
Learning different pedagogy, making sure that I pass.
My portfolio is filled with lessons designed with care,
In hopes I can teach next year, no strikes to beware.
My French immersion students are always excited to see me.
They think I look like Tony Stark, a Marvel celebrity!
Sporting a Movember moustache on my face,
It doesn’t look great, I’m just happy I don’t get mace.
Excited to be teaching for six weeks in a row,
I’m working with the other student teachers to put on a Holiday show!
Planning and teaching, teaching and planning,
I’ll be ready to retire like the great Peyton Manning.
I’ve learned quite a bit since I started this year,
In front of the students, I have no more fear.
My plans are more in depth, they have a lot more heft
I think of every scenario, I leave nothing left.
After each lesson, I reflect and I think,
Great feedback from Mrs. Dudley, she supports with a wink.
She’s been an awesome partner, a mentor who cares
Together we work well, a good teaching pair.
Upon this reflection, I have many strengths
I’ll list them below, no matter the length
I’m professional, confident and well prepared
Enthusiastic, taking initiative and within a team all will be shared
I do have some areas I’d still like to improve,
Like variety in my lessons, making their minds move.
Remembering they’re grade 3, they take a bit more time
To produce and to work just before Christmas time.
I’ve set some lofty goals for my upcoming quest,
My practicum focus is being a real teacher, the very best.
To be a professional educator, a curator of minds,
For all my current and future students of all kinds.
