Thomas Westfall, OCT
I received today my official acknowledgement from the OCT that I'm a licensed teacher. As that sets in, I can't help but feel excited for the next steps. There is obviously a lot of uncertainty in the coming months with the COVID-19 pandemic still raging on, but I can rest assured that my hard efforts have been rewarded. Despite the pandemic, I haven't been resting on my laurels. I completed today an in-depth unit plan for my friend and fellow teaching colleague for next year. I harnessed my financial background to plan a unit on financial literacy and have shared all my unit plan with lessons on my digital hub. I was inspired for a lot of my lessons from my unofficial placement I did in April with this same friend. I was able to learn a lot about teaching high school students and the intricacies of teaching online during a pandemic. I got the opportunity to present a workshop to the students on financial literacy, I called it Adulting 101, preparing them to the next steps after high school from a financial well-being standpoint. I've always been a proponent that knowledge builds confidence and good decision making.
The summer will be one where I continue to improve and work on myself, I'm taking two additional qualifications to expand my teaching abilities and the subjects I can teach. Hopefully everyone has a safe, kind and happy summer. Don't waste time to make the world a better place!
