The day started with reading with the second grades, they got distracted by a wasp, but I helped out and kept the kids safe by getting rid of it in one quick swipe. The grade 5s were reading to the grade 2s, and they then worked on the sound "ou" like in bijou. I served as a translator for some of the kids who weren't sure about the meaning of some of the words. The next session started with Mme LeClair reading a message shared with their parents about classroom management, making sure they are understood. They have been having a bit of a hard time recently staying on task and listening to instructions. We then reviewed the feedback form for their Qui suis-je? Presentation, highlighting expectations. She gave entertaining examples of what to do and what not to do.The presentations went relatively well, many times the children had to be reminded that listening to their peer is a silent activity. Demonstrating respect still seems like an issue. There were numerous spelling mistakes in their presentations, I think they need to spend more time reviewing their own work before submitting it, but overall the creativity in many was impressive. I know at that age I didn't have the computer literacy that these kids have. Before they went to recreation, we sat down with a child who was experiencing some behavioral issues and talked about how he has the tools to correct his behavior and attitude. It was a very supportive conversation overall. The last lesson was focusing on writing. They entered into their journals their responses to prompts from the teacher about the movie they watched the previous day on Terry Fox. While they worked, I also did the assignment so that the teacher would be able to share it with the class in case needed inspiration when I'm not there. Hope they like my essay about how my mother is my inspiration!
